Day 3

Sea of Galilee

Drive along the side of the lake to Capernaum, the centre of Jesus’ ministry. Tabgha, just north of Tiberias, is the site of Christ’s miracle of feeding the 5,000. At the Church of Multiplication, the mosaic floor depicts a basket with loaves and two fishes. We drive on to the Mount of Beatitudes overlooking the Sea, where Jesus preached the “Sermon on the Mount” and it is believed that Jesus picked his 12 apostles. Continue to the Golan Heights for panoramic views of Mt. Hermon, the rugged plateau and beneath it the green pastoral Huleh valley. Return to Tiberias for overnight.

Sea of Galilee

The Galilee is a mountainous region in Israel’s north, and is divided into two main parts - the Upper Galilee to the north and the Lower Galilee to the south.

The Galilee has an abundance of important sites. For example, there is the well preserved and restored old city of Acre, the ancient towns of Safed and Tiberias plus the Christian holy sites of Nazareth and Capernaum as well as natural treasures such as the sources of the Jordan River and Lake Kineret or the Sea of Galilee.

With a large concentration of historical sites, natural beauty and breathtaking landscapes it is easy to see what makes Galilee so unique.
